Accra's "Limbo Engawa" Pavilion: A New Cultural Landmark

Limbo Museum, Accra

Accra has unveiled "Limbo Engawa," an innovative architectural pavilion by Juergen Benson-Strohmayer of TAELON7. Commissioned by the Limbo Museum in partnership with Art Omi, this installation transforms overlooked urban spaces into dynamic cultural hubs. Inspired by the Japanese concept of "engawa," it features a large, hand-woven daybed within a modular steel frame, encouraging public interaction and reflection. This project marks the beginning of an annual African architectural commission, aiming to highlight innovative design across the continent. Later this year, "Limbo Engawa" will be reinterpreted at Art Omi in New York, fostering a cross-continental dialogue between landscapes and cultures.
