The Kpledjoo Festival is an annual harvest celebration by the chiefs and people of Tema in the Greater Accra Region. Scheduled for March 28, 2026, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the festival marks the recovery of the Sakumo Lagoon to ensure a bountiful harvest. Prior to the event, a five-month ban is placed on fishing and crab trapping in the lagoon. The festivities culminate in a grand durbar of chiefs and people, featuring rituals performed by the Sakumo lagoon priest, and are characterized by communal merrymaking and free-for-all hugging. This vibrant event offers a unique insight into the cultural heritage of the Tema community.
