Zupee lays off 200 in second round of job cuts after real money gaming ban
Zupee, an online gaming startup, has laid off approximately 200 employees in a second round of job cuts, following India's ban on real money gaming. This decision comes after a previous reduction of around 170 jobs in September, leaving the company with about 350 staff members. In response to the regulatory changes, Zupee is shifting its focus towards free-to-play games, esports, and short-form drama content, including a new platform for micro dramas. The founder, Dilsher Singh Malhi, emphasized the necessity of these changes to align the organization with long-term priorities and ensure sustainability. The layoffs primarily affected teams in operations, technology, marketing, and customer support as the company adapts to the evolving gaming landscape.
