Gut problems may shape Parkinson’s disease progression through the gut-brain axis

Pubblicato da Inner Balance · 2 mesi fa

Recent research highlights the significant connection between gastrointestinal (GI) health and the progression of Parkinson's disease (PD) through the gut-brain axis. Many individuals with PD experience digestive issues, such as constipation, years before the onset of motor symptoms, suggesting that gut dysfunction may play a crucial role in the disease's early stages. This review emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing GI disturbances as part of comprehensive care for PD, as they can impact medication absorption and overall quality of life. Integrative approaches, including dietary and lifestyle changes, may help support gut health and alleviate symptoms, although further studies are needed to confirm their effectiveness in modifying disease progression.
